Comprehensive Fabric Manufacturing Process Route

Comprehensive Fabric Manufacturing Process Route: Criteria, Finishing & Key Parameters

The fabric manufacturing process involves multiple steps, from knitting or weaving to finishing, each step tailored according to the fabric type, composition, and final requirement. Below is a detailed professional overview of the process route, criteria, and finishing techniques commonly followed in textile industries.

1. Process and Criteria

Circular / Flat Knitting

Requirement: Quantity must be clearly mentioned in Kg or PCS.

Application: Used for various types of knitted fabric production like single jersey, rib, or interlock.

Open or Tube Form

Selection: As per the booking instructions, fabrics are either processed in open width or tubular form.

Solid Program

Applied for solid color fabric production.

Yarn Dyed (YD) Program

Involves pre-dyed yarns for striped, check, or patterned fabrics.

2. Special Finishing Processes

Brush Finish

Fabric Form: Always processed in open width.

Provides a soft, hairy surface for a premium feel.

Peach Finish

Fabric Form: Always processed in open width.

Creates a suede-like texture on the surface of the fabric.

Overdyeing (OD)

Mandatory Condition: Must mention OD or garment color during booking.

All Over Print (AOP)

Fabric Form: Always in open width.

Printing of patterns, motifs, or designs is done all over the fabric.

3. Composition & Heat Setting

Applicable for:

100% Polyester, 100% Viscose, and any fabric containing elastane.

Process: Heat setting is mandatory in open width form to stabilize the fabric and improve dimensional stability.

4. Additional Processes

Singeing

Applicable for:

CVC and PC Single Jersey fabrics.

Fabric Form: Always open width.

Purpose: To burn off loose fibers and give a smooth surface.

Mercerization

Condition: Applied only if mentioned in booking.

Improves luster, strength, and dye affinity.

High Temperature Dyeing (HTD)

Mandatory for:

100% Polyester and PC fabrics.

Only Wash Process

For:

Yarn Dyed (YD), Melange, Sulphur Black (S/B), and Indigo programs.

Normal Dyeing

Applied for:

All fabrics except HTD and wash programs.

5. Finishing Routes

Depending on the required hand feel, appearance, and dimensional stability, the finishing route can vary:

Bianco → Stenter → Peach → Stenter → Compactor

      If Peach finish is required.

Bianco → Stenter → Brush → Stenter → Compactor

      If Brush finish is required.

Bianco → Stenter → Peach → Brush → Stenter → Compactor

If both Peach & Brush finishes are needed.

Bianco → Stenter → Compactor

For all fabrics except Peach, Brush, Collar-Cuff, and Rib fabrics.

De-watering → Bianco → Dryer → Compacting

      For Rib fabrics.

De-watering → Bianco → Dryer

      For Collar-Cuff fabrics.

6. Sharing Process

Applied when:

Brush program is mentioned in booking.

Purpose: To improve surface texture and remove loose fibers.

Conclusion

A well-defined fabric manufacturing process route ensures consistent quality, dimensional stability, and the desired surface finish. By selecting the right route—based on fabric composition, finishing requirements, and customer specifications—manufacturers can achieve premium-quality textiles.
